Technology is constantly changing, being developed and redeveloped, applied in different ways, and increasingly being developed by private firms for public uses. But still we find that some technologies remain in the domain of the traditionally government beholden military industrial complex in particular. Many people argue that the greatest force for development and technical innovation is the liberalized free market and that we’re holding ourselves back by not privatizing major research realms, like outers space, and genetically modified super soldiers.

Once again, revisiting the recent NASA launches (as has been my desire) it’s worth noting that this once proud institution has been highly criticised by close associates of being a bloated bureacracy running in circles, chasing its own tail. And with the likes of eccentric millionaires such as Richard Branson of Virgin Galactic vying for attention with the success of its X-1 competition and recent rocket motor tests, it appears that even the most recent NASA missions lack the hubris and charisma that the private sector is now slowly mounting. And by private sector I mean mostly Branson.

Another great example of a private company extending its reach to the extents of our capabilites is Vancouver energy technology company General Fusion. Who have made waves with their claims of affordable  fusion technology at a fraction of most would be producers prices. They’ve been awarded a second round of seed money after positive reviews from Boeing concerning their math and schematics.

Maybe if Branson and General Fusion got together they could make a fusion powered class 5 intergalactic mega destroyer? I would totally be the janitor on that thing.
