Thirdi SEO Tips: PageRank Sculpting and SEO Plugins for Wordpress

By Keith | June 16th, 2009

The SEO community is still up in arms about the recent announcement from Google about how the rel=nofollow attribute is no longer an effective method of sculpting PageRank.  According to Matt Cutts, Google Spam Leader and SEO scapegoat, this has been in effect for over a year, but apparently no one noticed.  I gather that Matt assumed that the search engine optimization scientists were still attempting to disseminate the Google Search Algorithm in secret underground laboratories using the large Hadron Collider.

But I’m not going to talk about that today!  Instead, I’m going to recommend some handy Wordpress plugins to improve your blog’s SEO.

wordpress-seo

Redirection

This is my favorite plugin.  It lets you setup 301 redirects straight from the administration page.  No .htaccess editing required!

All In One SEO

There are many plugins that allow you to set your page titles and meta descriptions.  I like this one because it automatically sets the metas if you forget to.

StatPress Reloaded

This plugin creates a logfile for your Wordpress blog and gives a very accurate description of your site traffic (including logging the IP addresses of all those comment spammers!).

Twitter Tools

I have tested many Twitter plugins, and this one is by far the most comprehensive.  It allows you to post your Twitter feed to your blog, or post to Twitter from your blog, but the most useful function is that it will automatically tweet your blog posts the minute they’re published!  Very handy!
