If Oprah were a techie…

She would be into this book. Upon reading Oprah’s twitter feed, I wonder how she finds the time to tweet so often and in such an articulate, Oprah-ish manner. Maybe she doesn’t even write her own tweets?? If she does though, then she and so many others should really check out the book 140 Characters.
Written by Twitter co-creator Dom Sagolla and Adam Jackson, this book is a literal guide to how to optimize those iconic 140 characters for full literary effect. In the book, they describe what tone, language, and topic you should use in order to make your tweets the best that they can be. It’s also contains a glossary of Twitter specific terms, like RT and “twoosh.”
The book isn’t just about Twitter though. The authors claim that the book is a useful writing guide for other sites as well, like Facebook, and even for text messages. With all the righteous claims of how technology and social media are diluting the English language, guides like 140 Characters may help in bringing such things a measure of legitimacy as a communication medium. Heck, if it can save me from seeing even one less dumb and gramatically incorrect tweet out there, then I will be happy.
Buy the book!
